Should We Pay for Sex Change Operation?

A Massachusetts judge recently order the state to pay for a prisoner’s sex change operation. Some people now propose insurance companies should pay for sex change operation. What do you think?

As much as I believe mental disorders should be given parity in re-imbursement (at the present time it’s not). I have a hard time accepting that any group of people (the residents of a state or insured) should foot exhorbitant bills for such a process (even partially) the sex change process consists of first psychogical care, then hormone therapy, then the procedure it self (which costs between 10-50K us dollars), then ongoing hormone treatment. So not only the Sex Reassignment Surgery is expensive, life long maintenance makes it even more so.

As progressive we are becoming, there’s still a belief that medical care take priority over psychological care because one does not die from not having a sex change operation although I’ve met people who are quite depressed over it. To make a majority pay for excessive expenses for a rare non-life threatening disorder of a few is not fair.

We all have to live in our bodies even if we don’t like it. So no. I never grew up to my body either, it is someone elses body, some, who wants to be sexy and is confident. That is not my body. So suffer everyone as I suffer too, lol
